Table

The Trestle Table is an elegant, flexible table where the top and the base are not connected. The base consists of lightweight aluminum trestles which are stackable and very stable due to careful design. The trestles support the table top, with a layer of cork providing sufficient grip.

The table top has Forbo Desktop as its top layer; a distinctive upholstery material made from sustainable raw materials that is known for its elegance. Forbo Desktop offers a unique combination of a semi-matte surface with a warm, fine structure and develops a beautiful patina over time.

Variations

The Trestle Table is standard available in widths of 70, 80 or 90 cm and lengths of 1.80 to 2.20 meters with 2 Trestles. Lengths of 2.50 to 3.00 meters are possible with 3 Trestles. Deviating sizes are possible on request!

The Trestle Table is designed by David Derksen. David's studio is based in Rotterdam. Nature, and especially the principles and processes found in nature, are his main sources of inspiration. This results in a strong focus on materials, how they behave and how they can be constructed.

As a graduation project, he developed a lightweight composite tabletop with lightweight, stackable Trestles. The idea behind this was to make office furniture more suitable for the increasingly flexible functions of office environments. The table he MADE for his graduation ultimately became the starting point for the Trestle Table as it is now found in the Vij5 collection.

After graduating (see DESIGN) and several attempts to find the right producer for the tabletop, David decided to present the design again in Milan with a different tabletop (plywood with a Forbo linoleum top layer). Although we had been familiar with the design for several years, this was the moment when the Trestle Table really caught our attention. In the meantime, we were busy with David around the Copper and Brass Lights. But after a number of years, the Trestle Table finally became part of the Vij5 collection in 2018!

The table was actually almost fully developed by David. All we did together was choose a few standard colors for the trestles and top layer of the table top.

What we find interesting about the Trestle Table is that it is particularly suitable for use in spaces where flexibility is important, such as work environments, but because of its elegance, it also looks great in a domestic setting. Unlike many other tables with trestles, you can use a chair on the head end of the table making it suitable as a dining table, for example.

The Trestles of the Trestle Table are MADE in Germany at a metal processing company that is very good at welding aluminum. This company also MADE David's prototype series earlier.

The dimensions of the Trestle Table top can be fully customized to fit the interior. It is made in the Netherlands by a tabletop manufacturer that is very good at bonding Forbo Desktop. This requires clean and careful work, because Forbo behaves like 'a skin' that is laid over the tabletops, and every speck or dirt underneath will eventually show through the surface.

As a top layer we use the beautiful matte Forbo Desktop, furniture linoleum. This is available in many colors and since every table is MADE to measure, this is free to choose. The Trestles are currently available in three standard colors (white, dark blue and black), in order to MAKE beautiful combinations. In consultation, we can also coat the Trestles in other colors (at an additional cost).

Other top layers such as HPL are possible on request!

Forbo Furniture Linoleum

Furniture Linoleum is a high quality and distinctive product with a natural and warm matt look that invites to touch. Although it invites to be touched, no fingerprints remain on the surface.

Furniture Linoleum consists of three layers: impregnated paper, linoleum granulate and a top layer.

Linoleum granulate consists of oxidized linseed oil and resin to which wood flour, limestone and pigments have been added. A calender rolls the granulate onto the impregnated paper. After the drying process, Furniture Linoleum is provided with a protective finish. This water-based acrylic finish accentuates the specific natural look of linoleum.

Thanks to the purely natural ingredients and the special protective layer, Furniture Linoleum is antistatic. The material is resistant to the build-up of static electricity, so dust has no chance to adhere and the material remains dust-free and clean.

All Trestle Tables are MADE to measure and MADE to order. This gives you a lot of freedom of choice in color and dimensions.

There are a number of standard colors Trestles, but a custom color is also possible on request.

All table tops are basically MADE to measure and per order, so we are even more flexible in that.

We work from an easily accessible industrial hall (2 minutes from the A2) near the residential boulevard of Den Bosch. Most products can be seen here, but at the moment the showroom is in use for another large project.
