's-Chair

This stackable chair is sturdy and stable thanks to its clean design and clever wooden construction.

The frame provides such a high degree of stability that the chair can withstand extremely high loads in accordance with NEN-EN 16139 Level 2. That’s quite remarkable for a wooden chair!

Both the backrest and the seat are composed of facets that give the chair a distinctive silhouette while also enhancing seating comfort.

The chair is available with a colored HPL top layer or in an upholstered version made with Kvadrat fabric, and is suitable for both commercial and residential use.

For us, that doesn't just mean giving information about where something has been produced. Our chain starts much earlier: with the designer of the product!

The ’s-Chair was designed b by Jeroen Wand . From his studio in Eindhoven, he explores the raw, unpolished side of design, using this approach to create objects, products, installations, and environments that encourage people to discover alternative forms of beauty and pleasure.

Whereas other chairs often use a single type of wood, Jeroen used a combination of solid oak and plywood components for the ‘s-Chair. This gives the chair a simple yet rich look that complements a variety of interior styles.

The ’s-Chair has been part of the Vij5 collection since 2014. Since Jeroen’s studio is located near ours, we regularly get an early sneak peek at his new projects. This stackable chair caught our attention by because of its distinctive shape, its colored surfaces, and the unique combination of solid oak and plywood.

Some Designers are already quite far along with a product by the time we get in touch with them. That was the case, for example, with the ’s-Chair. Jeroen originally designed the chair for the education space at the Stedelijk Museum ’s-Hertogenbosch (hence the “’s-”) and had therefore already finalized the chair’s design. Together, we also developed an upholstered version. In consultation with our upholsterer, we designed the upholstery so that it retained the same features as the HPL version.

All plywood parts of the frame and the solid oak legs are produced in Meppel (NL) .

After that, everything is sent to designer Jeroen Wand ’s studio and workshop in Eindhoven (NL), where the chairs are assembled by hand.

The upholstered version of the chair is processed by our fixed upholsterer in 's-Hertogenbosch (NL).

NEN-EN 1619 Level 2

For the upholstered version, we use the Kvadrat fabric Rime. Rime is a wool furniture fabric that has a melange-like appearance when viewed from a distance. Each of Rime's colorways combines a bright tone with a hue. For some colorways, which combine similar hues, Rime appears unicolored. For others, where the contrast is stronger, the texture of the textile emerges much more clearly.
