The Solid Hooks wall hooks are practical and decorative at the same time: everything that hangs on them immediately gets a stylish look!

They are made of solid copper, brass or (tempered) steel. By means of the included screw, the coat hooks are easy to attach to the wall. The Solid Hooks can also be used as handles on kitchen cabinets and other cabinets. You can easily screw on the knob via the back of the cabinet door.

The Solid Hooks are designed by Max Lipsey. For Max, design equals the challenge to make an originally industrial process more spontaneous and lively. His work stems from his own fascinations around crafts and production techniques with a predilection for steel. The Solid Hooks are a good example of this.

"The inspiration for this product came from an industrially produced copper tube and the ways you can deform it. This reminded me of the shape of the famous functional wooden coat hooks of the Shakers.“

Max first started working in his own workshop, which gave the product an intuitive design. But in the process, he did not lose sight of his fascination for production techniques on a larger scale. His intervention resulted in beautiful, functional objects.

The Solid Hooks have been part of the Vij5 collection since 2016. They excel in their simplicity because they are made of a pure and solid material. This purity is what immediately appealed to us.

For example, give your favourite items from your wardrobe extra attention in your bedroom or create a nice spot in the bathroom for your bathrobe. In the kitchen, create a sophisticated detail by hanging your tea towel, hand towel or TwoTowel on the smallest hook. And of course, the Solid Hooks also make for a super stylish hallway: for example, combine different sizes for a playful effect!

The first Solid Hooks were available in copper. Soon, a brass version followed. In 2018, we introduced a version made of tempered steel.

Tempering steel is normally used to increase the elasticity and plasticity of the material. When steel is heated to beyond 200 °C, it undergoes a wild transformation of colors. The Solid Hooks are therefore not tempered to improve the elasticity of the steel, but to create beautiful colors!

The Solid Hooks are CNC turned from solid copper, brass or steel. This base of the Solid Hooks is made by a manufacturer in the Eindhoven region, after which the items are further processed by Max in his studio in Eindhoven.

In the case of the copper and brass version, the wall hooks are sanded. In the case of the steel version, the wall hooks are tempered by Max.

Tempering steel is a technique that Max has further developed and manually applies to his products. The color palette of the tempered Solid Hooks originates from the base material and varies per piece, making each hook unique.

The Solid Hooks then arrive ready-made in our studio, after which we do a bit of quality control and pack the wall hooks in a nice box.

Factoid: tempering is a heat treatment in which steel is heated to a certain temperature and then slowly cooled down. The exact temperature and the specific composition of the alloy determine the colour of the final product. When steel is heated beyond 200°C, it undergoes a wild transformation of colors and actually becomes a kind of thermometer where the color represents the height of the temperature.

We work from an easily accessible industrial hall (2 minutes from the A2) near the residential boulevard of Den Bosch. Most products can be seen here, but at the moment the showroom is in use for another large project.
