‘s-Chair

This stackable chair is sturdy and stable thanks to its clear design and clever wood construction.

The frame provides so much stability that the chair can be exposed to extremely high loads according to NEN-EN 16139 level 2. Something that is quite special for a wooden chair!

Both the backrest and the seat are made up of facets that give the chair a unique silhouette and at the same time improve seating comfort.

The chair is available with a colored HPL top layer or in an upholstered version, made with Kvadrat fabric, and is suitable for both project-based use and residential Applications.

Transparency of the production chain comes naturally to us.

For us, that doesn't just mean giving information about where something has been produced. Our chain starts much earlier: with the designer of the product!

The 's-Chair is designed by Jeroen Wand. With his studio in Eindhoven, he explores the raw, unpolished side of design, developing objects, products, installations and environments that encourage finding alternative forms of what is beautiful or pleasant.

Where other chairs often opt for one type of wood, Jeroen used a combination of solid oak and plywood parts for the ‘s-Chair. This ensures that the chair has an uncomplicated but rich appearance that matches various interior styles.

The ’s-Chair has been part of the Vij5 collection since 2014. Because Jeroen's studio is close to ours, we regularly get a sneak peek of his new projects at an early stage. This stackable chair caught our attention because of its characteristic shape, the colored surfaces and the unique combination of solid oak and plywood.

Some Designers are already very far along with a product when we get in touch with them. This was the case with the ’s-Chair, for example. Jeroen originally DESIGNed the chair for the education room of the Stedelijk Museum ’s-Hertogenbosch (hence the ‘s-) and had therefore already fully developed the chair himself. Together we also developed an upholstered version. In consultation with our upholsterer, we DESIGNed the upholstery in such a way that it retained the same facets as the HPL version.

All plywood parts of the frame and the solid oak legs are produced in Meppel (NL) .

Then everything comes to the studio & workshop of designer Jeroen Wand in Eindhoven (NL) where the chairs are manually assembled.

The upholstered version of the chair is processed by our fixed upholsterer in 's-Hertogenbosch (NL).

"The 's-Chair is certified according to NEN standards for "Areas in which seating is incidentally or repeatedly exposed to extremely high loads because of their specific type of use or through improper use."

For the upholstered version, we use the Kvadrat fabric Rime. Rime is a wool furniture fabric that has a melange-like appearance when viewed from a distance. Each of Rime's colorways combines a bright tone with a hue. For some colorways, which combine similar hues, Rime appears unicolored. For others, where the contrast is stronger, the texture of the textile emerges much more clearly.

Other colors from the beautiful Kvadrat Rime series are also available on request, starting from just 4 pieces!

We work from an easily accessible industrial hall (2 minutes from the A2) near the residential boulevard of Den Bosch. Most products can be seen here, but at the moment the showroom is in use for another large project.
