The Precious Memories photo frames were designed by Isabel Quiroga. Isabel lives in Amsterdam, where she also has her studio and workshop.

Isabel is known for her Design , which uniquely combine imagination and functionality. She focuses on a product’s purpose and practicality, and by , through her innovative approach, she always manages to strike a subtle balance between functionality and originality. Each design is by carefully adapted and refined until it results in well-thought-out creations that excel in both form and function.

The Precious Memories photo frames are a wonderful example of Isabel’s organic design process. As a collector of small materials, she had a collection of (scrap) wood blocks that ultimately served as inspiration for the frames’ bases. by Available in various sizes and colours , the design allows you to create a personal landscape of memories. The photo frames invite you to experiment with different combinations, making them perfect for a unique and personal display.

With this design, Isabel emphasizes the importance of tangible memories. by By consciously choosing which images to print, you take them off your phone screen and make them part of your daily life. This way, memories not only become visible, but they also gain more meaning and depth.

The Precious Memories photo frames have been an official part of our “ Vij5 ” collection since 2025. We’ve known Isabel Quiroga for years and have run into her regularly at various exhibitions. Her work has always inspired us, so when Isabel approached us with her design for the Precious Memories photo frames, we knew right away that it would be a perfect fit for our collection. The design aligns seamlessly with our design philosophy— by —with its beautiful simplicity and thoughtful details.

Isabel’s concept behind the Precious Memories photo frames also spoke to us right away: emphasizing the value of beautiful memories. These photo frames offer an elegant way to display photos, drawings, small works of art, or postcards. The design literally places memories on a pedestal, with glass and aluminum securely holding the image in place, supported by by a wooden wedge. This clever and minimalist system makes it not only functional but also visually appealing.

Our collaboration began with a preview of Isabel’s original, handmade series at the OBJECT Rotterdam design fair in 2024. This series sold out quickly, which was a clear sign for us to move forward with a production run. The enthusiasm of our visitors and customers confirmed that these picture frames are not only a beautiful addition to the “ Vij5 ” collection, but also inspire people to make their memories tangible and meaningful.

For the production run of the Precious Memories photo frames, we were able to build on a beautiful handmade series that Isabel had created earlier. This gave us a strong foundation on which to further refine the design. As with many other products in the “ Vij5 ” collection, we worked with Isabel to make a number of small adjustments to make the design easier to produce and more affordable, without compromising the original look and quality. For example, we chose a different material for the backplate and had the wooden feet produced in standard sizes. We also worked together to establish the “ colours ,” which provided greater clarity in terms of inventory management. These kinds of optimizations help us bring structure and stability to the production process, while remaining true to the original design.

Next, we looked for the right partners to help us bring these picture frames to life. Finding the perfect manufacturers is always essential to ensuring the quality we stand for!

The base of the photo frames is made from a solid piece of FSC-certified ash wood and is manufactured in Lithuania. It arrives untreated at our workshop, where we manually apply a coat of Satin Wood Oil (colored linseed oil from Denmark) to the blocks.

The wooden wedges are made from FSC-certified pine and are crafted in our workshop.

The glass panels are made of float glass, which has a very smooth surface without any irregularities. Standard glass is not anti-reflective, which means its reflection is similar to that of window glass. The glass panels are manufactured in Germany by by a company with more than 20 years of experience.

The aluminum panels are laser-cut and manufactured at by , our steel manufacturer in Duizel, and then powder-coated in Valkenswaard. Powder coating contains no hazardous solvents, and the overspray is reused, resulting in virtually no waste. This not only saves costs but is also better for the environment compared to conventional liquid coatings, which produce hazardous waste.
