The Angled Cabinet is constructed from thin beams which, due to their rotation around the axis, form striking nodes at the intersections. This ensures strong and stable connections and gives this display case its unique construction and striking appearance.

When you see this structure in an isometric perspective, it is as if you are looking at an architectural skeleton in which you get a different image from every angle.

The wooden base frame of the cabinet has six compartments, and you can completely determine the layout of the cabinet yourself. The glass and aluminum panels are interchangeable, making the layout of the cabinet flexible.

The Angled Cabinet is designed by Studio Thier & van Daalen (Ruben Thier and Iris van Daalen).

Iris and Ruben have a home studio in Eindhoven where they combine living and working. They also have a studio at Sectie-C, a creative hotspot in Eindhoven where several Designers, makers, artists and other creative companies are located.

For the design of the Angled Cabinet, Studio Thier & van Daalen drew inspiration from the sketches and drawings of artists and architects such as Le Corbusier, Rietveld and Joost Swarte, who use a unique isometric projection in their handwriting. Fascinated by wooden frames because of their strong, clear and repetitive design language, they translated this principle into a new repeating pattern of beams and connections in wood.

For the design of the Angled Cabinet we were inspired by the sketches and drawings of artists and architects such as Le Corbusier, Rietveld and Joost Swarte.

Studio Thier & van Daalen

The Angled Cabinet has been part of the Vij5 collection since 2017. Iris and Ruben are masters in designing interior products to showcase personal objects in a beautiful way. The Angled Cabinet is no exception. The minimalist and well-balanced design creates an empty canvas for you to personalize with your own belongings. Whether it's your most precious souvenirs, your favourite books or a few random curiosities, this cabinet will make them look fabulous instantly!

The Angled Cabinet was developed entirely b by Studio Thier & van Daalen and became part of the Vij5 collection in 2017. In 2019, we jointly introduced two additional components for the cabinet, giving it new functions. While the Angled Cabinet was originally designed as an oak display cabinet with glass panels in various colours, the system was expanded to include coated aluminum panels and a wooden wine rack. This made the cabinet more versatile in its Share and suitable for a wider range of purposes.

Since 2024, the cabinet has been available in a completely renewed version. This new version is produced locally and socially from sustainable Dutch ash wood. In addition, the color scheme has been updated, visible in the choice of wood types and the colored aluminum and glass panels.

The glass panels are available in 3 color variations, from left to right: clear gray, clear blue and semi-transparent white etched glass.

The wooden parts of the Angled Cabinet are made in a social workshop in the Netherlands from Dutch ash wood from demonstrably sustainable wood with FSC® quality mark, local Stadshout or FSC® recycled. The producer is committed to helping people from vulnerable groups back to work.

The cabinet is then assembled in the Vij5 workshop.

The glass and aluminum panels are interchangeable, making the layout of the cabinet flexible. The standard configuration has two long glass panels of 3 compartments long and 1 glass panel of 2 compartments long. You can add aluminum panels in two sizes to this. Other configurations are possible on request.

At our studio in Den Bosch, near the home furnishings district and just two minutes from the A2, everything comes together: showroom, workshop, warehouse, and office. Most products from the Vij5 collection are on display here.
