Folding a thin sheet of copper can create stable structures, as David Derksen proves with its Copper & Brass Lights.
The folding principle defines the shape and aesthetics of the lamps, creating a delicate yet refined series of lamps.
The BL28 LED is a new version of the famous Brass Lights from David Derksen. The shape of the lamp is constructed by simply folding a 0.3mm thin brass plate: using an etching technique, the bending lines are introduced into the material, after which they are folded by hand and assembled in Eindhoven.
Where the original series of the Brass Lights use the more traditional E27 light sources, David created this new version of the lamp to meet current lighting design requirements. The new lamp therefore incorporates LED light and a diffuser that provides a better and brighter light output, regardless of the shade colour. The LED driver is integrated into the lamp. Also, the shape of the lamp has been simplified and modernized, without losing the aesthetics and fragility of the original Brass Lights. The reflection of the environment in the shiny brass surfaces gives each facet its own color tone, from dark gold to yellow to beige.
