Folding a thin sheet of copper can create stable structures, as David Derksen proves with its Copper & Brass Lights.
The folding principle defines the shape as well as the aesthetics of the lamps, forming a delicate yet refined series of lamps.
The BL28 LED is a new version of the famous Brass Lights from David Derksen. The shape of the lamp is constructed by simply folding a 0.3 mm thin brass sheet: using an etching technique, the bending lines are inserted into the material, then folded and assembled by hand in Eindhoven.
While the original series of Brass Lights use the more traditional E27 light sources, David created this new version of the lamp to meet current lighting design requirements. The new lamp therefore incorporates LED light and a diffuser that provides better and brighter light output, regardless of the shade color. The LED driver is integrated into the lamp. The shape of the lamp has also been simplified and modernized, without losing the aesthetics and fragility of the original Brass Lights. The reflection of the environment in the shiny brass surfaces gives each facet its own color tone, from dark gold to yellow to beige.
