Comfort Without Upholstery

The Tjalko chair is an all-wood dining chair that is surprisingly comfortable. This is due by to the way the wooden Share of the seat and backrest are shaped. They are cut at a consistent angle and then glued together, creating subtle curves that follow the shape of the body. The comfort thus stems directly from the chair’s construction. No upholstery or additional material is needed to ensure a comfortable seat.

A sleek and graphic silhouette

This wooden designer chair was created by n designer and furniture maker Tjalko Lokhorst. At first glance, the chair appears simple, but a great deal of attention has been paid to its proportions, angles, and joints. The silhouette is sleek and graphic, and remains interesting to look at from various angles. At the same time, the chair has a friendly and natural quality. This interplay gives it a distinct character of its own, without making it overly prominent in a room.

Solid ash wood with a continuous grain pattern

The Tjalko Chair is a solid wood chair made of ash with a distinct natural flame grain. This grain plays an important role in the chair’s appearance and remains visible beneath the colored linseed oil finish applied to the chair. The slats for the seat and backrest are cut from a single piece of wood. As a result,
the wood grain of the seat by flows into the backrest. It is a detail that requires a great deal of attention during production, but it is precisely this detail that creates a sense of calm and cohesion in the final result. The colored linseed oil protects the wood and gives the surface a matte finish without hiding the natural grain. Entirely crafted in our own workshop in Den Bosch

This Dutch-designed chair is made entirely in small batches in our own workshop in Den Bosch. We combine precise machining
with handcrafted work. The components of the side frames are CNC-milled from a single panel. The seat and backrest, on the other hand, involve a great deal of handwork. For these, we carefully select solid ash wood and further process the components in our workshop, ensuring that the natural wood grain flows beautifully. The various components are then glued together, and the chair is assembled. It is subsequently carefully sanded and hand-finished with colored linseed oil.

The Tjalko Chair combines comfortable seating with a sleek silhouette and the warm character of solid wood. Its clean lines make it easy to pair with various interior styles, while the chair by retains its own distinctive proportions and details.
