Rapeseed oil is a hydrogenated vegetable oil and is grown in Europe and even in the Netherlands. It is a bright yellow flowering plant from the mustard or cabbage family that is often grown on fallow land without pesticides. Especially when used as a soil conditioner in crop rotation, rapeseed enriches the soil structure by and promotes humus formation, resulting in higher yields for subsequent crops. Furthermore, rapeseed promotes biodiversity because this profusely flowering plant also serves as a food source for bees and other insects. It is therefore a local product and a sustainable alternative to paraffin candles!
