This year, Vij5 pushed the boundaries of crowdfunding by involving the community in one of the most important choices of a design process; choosing a color. The experiment revolved around the TwoTowel. A towel and tea towel in one, where two functions that are normally used next to each other come together in one product.

During the DDW, as a visitor to the Vij5 Showroom, you could place a pre-order for the product on the spot, cast your vote for your favorite color and thus directly influence the color of the new production batch. The crowdfunding campaign was successful with 107% and the most chosen color combination is actually being made!

5 finalists
In a preliminary round, the public submitted 80 different color combinations. From these, 5 finalists emerged, which served as the basis for the crowdfunding campaign via the platform of Voordekunst.nl during the month of October 2018.
5 settings
In the Vij5 Showroom, the 5 different color combinations of the finalists were translated into 5 different interior settings. This gave the public a better idea of how each color combination could fit into the Vij5 collection in a different way.

New products
In addition to the crowdfunding campaign, we also launched four new products, which were centrally located in the space: The Trestle Table and BL28 LED lamp by David Derksen, the Glint Light by Susanne de Graef, and a new bar stool by Floris Hovers, the Tilt Bar Stool, specially designed for the DDW Business Lounge.
This year, Vij5 also (again) set up the official Press Centre and the new Business Lounge of Dutch Design Week at Strijp S.
