Dutch Design Week 2024 – Introducing Tomorrow: Preview of New Vij5 Products

with No comments

During Dutch Design Week 2024 we opened the doors of our workshop at the Hallenweg in Eindhoven for a special exhibition: Introducing Tomorrow. This year our presentation featured an exclusive preview of new and updated products, designed by a group of talented Designers. A fascinating mix of crafts, material experiments and new techniques. We created an inspiring space where visitors got a unique insight into the future of the Vij5.

A glimpse into the future

Our workshop was transformed into an exhibition space, where the diversity of designs was brought together by the material wood. This common ground inspired us to experiment with colored linseed oil, a technique that gives each piece its own character and unique look. As Dutch ambassadors of Linolie & Pigment, we presented the possibilities of colored linseed oil on different types of wood. This traditional process brought out natural textures and warm, vibrant colors, giving the products a striking and contemporary appearance.

Feedback and interaction

We believe that feedback is an essential part of our design process. Visitors were therefore given the opportunity to share their thoughts on the new products and thus contribute to their further development. This gave us valuable insights that we will take into account before these products are officially added to the Vij5 collection later this year.

New Products: Meet the Future Vij5 Collection

Below is a short introduction to the new designs that were on display during the exhibition. These products will not be immediately visible on our Website, but will be officially launched one by one in the coming months, as we want to carefully introduce each product into the collection. Keep an eye on our Website and social media or subscribe to our newsletter for updates!

Precious Memories photo frames

These elegant photo frames, designed by Isabel Quiroga, consist of just a few simple parts: a colored wooden block, a glass panel, a back panel, and a wooden wedge to hold everything firmly in place. The wooden block is treated with pigmented linseed oil.

The product stands out for both its design and functionality, offering a simple way to display photos, drawings, or postcards. The photo frames are available in various sizes, allowing you to create your own personal landscape of memories. The frames can be used both horizontally and vertically.

Angled Cabinet + Tray

The Angled Cabinet, designed by Studio Thier & van Daalen, is constructed from thin beams that, due to their rotation around the axis, form striking nodes at the intersections. This creates strong and stable connections and gives the cabinet its unique construction and striking appearance.

The cabinet has been part of the Vij5 collection since 2017 and is now available in a completely renewed version. This new version is produced locally and socially from sustainable Dutch ash wood. In addition, the color scheme has been updated, visible in the choice of wood types and the colored aluminum and glass panels.

We've translated the colorful aluminum panels of the Angled Cabinet into a new series of trays: the Angled Trays. This product, inspired by the design of the cabinet, will soon be available in two sizes and three colors.

The trays come from the same production series as the aluminum panels of the cabinet, resulting in an efficient production method. This, together with the use of high-quality, locally produced materials, contributes to a sustainable approach to interior Design. Perfect to add to your interior as functional and stylish eye-catchers!

10 years of ‘s-Chair

This stackable chair is both sturdy and stable, thanks to a well-thought-out design and smart wood construction. The frame offers so much stability that the chair can withstand extreme loads, according to NEN-EN 16139 level 2—quite special for a wooden chair!

This year, the ‘s-Chair by Jeroen Wand celebrates its 10th anniversary within the Vij5 collection. This is a great opportunity for us to expand the Furniture series around this special chair with New, matching stools and to give the existing chair a fresh look.

We used colored linseed oil for this, and the chair is upholstered with Kvadrat fabric made from recycled polyester yarn, manufactured from used plastic bottles. Thanks to the unique weave, the fabric retains a soft, natural look.

Qui side table

The QUI side table, designed by Marc Th. van der Voorn, originated during a study into the strength and flexibility of plywood. By putting the material under tension and varying the thickness, it gains its strength. Where the plywood is bent, the table offers space for magazines, cushions, or blankets, making it both a stylish and functional addition to your interior.

The lightweight construction ensures that you can easily move the table, so you can place it wherever you need extra space, whether it's for drinks, snacks, or a cozy reading corner. The birch wood is finished with colored linseed oil for a matte finish. The duo-color version makes the design playful and unique. With its elegant design, the QUI side table fits in with various styles and adds a decorative element to any space.

Papeterie

This New design by KellerFreyschmidt is a handy product for storing books and magazines. It consists of two basic parts that work together for a functional and user-friendly design: the sloping back keeps the items in place, while the ribbed bottom prevents them from sliding away.

You can use the product in various ways—directly on the floor next to a sofa or lounge chair, or as a supplement to side tables, cabinets or Shelves. The ribbed pattern also offers space for pens, keys or remote controls, for example.

Chair Tjalko

An apparently simple chair in which Tjalko's eye for detail and refinement is clearly evident. The flamed ash wood is sawn at a recurring angle, which creates subtle curves in the seat and backrest, making the chair surprisingly comfortable. The chair exudes friendliness, layering and tranquility—just like Tjalko himself!

The solid quality of the ash wood not only gives the chair a refined look, but also emphasizes the craftsmanship that has been put into the design. The elegant lines and organic shapes make the chair versatile, allowing it to seamlessly fit in with various interior styles. Thanks to the treatment with colored linseed oil, the chair is available in a wide range of colors, offering the possibility to perfectly match it to your personal taste and the decor of your space.

Chubby Table

The Chubby Table, designed by Hanne Willmann, is a special combination of craftsmanship and creative DESIGN. This heavy table stands out for its thick, rounded legs and a solid 4 cm thick table top, with a matching rounded edge. The result is a functional table with a playful, friendly look that fits perfectly in various interior styles.

The idea behind the Chubby Table arose from exploring the boundaries within woodworking. By playing with the design of the legs, the table top, and the connection between them, the table has a light and elegant appearance despite its massive character, which arouses curiosity about the construction. This design gives the table a unique and organic look, without sharp corners or hard lines.

With its inviting design and sturdy construction, the Chubby Table is not only a statement piece, but also a practical addition to your living space. A beautiful mix of traditional details and contemporary design.
