Graphic
Time
'Dot
Graphic Time 'Dot' is a graphical interpretation of the functional clock.
The kinetic object consists of 3 coloured semi-circles representing hours, minutes and seconds. The movable discs, perforated to reduce weight, constantly give the clock a new appearance with the passage of time. The object is a combination of movement and ever-changing compositions that represent time in a subtle way.
Variations
The first series of the Graphic Time 'dot' was available at Vij5 in two colour combinations. Both are currently sold out, because behind the scenes we are developing a new (larger) variant with a clock on mains power ... to be continued!

Transparency of the production chain comes naturally to us.
For us, that doesn't just mean giving information about where something has been produced. Our chain starts much earlier: with the designer of the product!

DESIGN
Graphic Time is a series of abstract clocks designed by Raw Color as part of their solo exhibition 'Blend' at The Aram Gallery in London. They experimented with a diversity of prints, perforations and colours resulting in a combination of movement and ever-changing compositions. Together with Vij5 the model 'Dot' was further developed and put into production.
Raw Color is a collaboration of designers Christoph Brach and Daniera ter Haar. Their work reflects a refined treatment of material by fusing the disciplines of graphic design, photography and product design.
"The materialization of color plays an important role in our work. By experimenting and relying on our intuition, we have developed a design language that explores the boundaries of different disciplines".

CURATE
Graphic Time 'Dot' has been part of the Vij5 collection since 2017. Within Vij5 we always strive to merge different ways of thinking into something new in order to create innovative, refreshing products. Graphic Time 'Dot' is a good example of this. We have always been impressed by Raw Color's work, but including one of their products in the Vij5 collection was difficult because their work is mainly focused on graphic design and less on product design. However, by designing a clock, they created the perfect match: interesting crossovers take place between time and composition, between graphic design and product design!
"Within Vij5 , we always strive to merge different mindsets into something new."

TRANSLATE
Christoph and Daniera originally conceived the Graphic Time 'Dot' in a paper version. In this lightweight version, they encountered all the necessary challenges.
Together we tried to make a stainless steel version of this. This turned out to be even more difficult, because the movement can only carry very little weight to keep functioning. Our first attempt was partly successful: in 2017 we were able to make a small series of the clock. But unfortunately the product was so fragile that it could not be sent by post properly.
That is why we are currently developing a new, larger version of the clock based on a different timepiece. Stay tuned!
CREATE
Currently, the Graphic Time 'Dot' is still in development (see 'VERTALS') and therefore not in production. Keep an eye on our website and social media, or subscribe to our newsletter if you want to be the first to know about new developments!
In the material passport you can find where and by whom the different parts of this product are made.
MATERIAL PASSPORT
Graphic Time
Material
The super-light dials are etched in Lelystad (NL) and are made of 0.2mm stainless steel.
They are spray-painted and assembled in small series in Eindhoven (NL).
Clockwork
The movement that was in the first series was an extra strong Quartz movement, supplied by our clock expert in Schoonhoven (NL). Together with him we also started to work out the details and we are now working on a new (larger) variant, in which the movement does not run on batteries but on mains power.
Dimensions
Diameters of the circles are 16 cm (hours), 15 cm (minutes) & 14 cm (seconds).
