Theodóra Alfreðsdóttir

Theodóra Alfreðsdóttir

Theodóra Alfreðsdóttir (born 1986) is an Icelandic product designer based in London. She studied product design at Iceland University of the Arts (2012) and pursued her master's degree in Design Products at the Royal College of Art in London (2015). Collaborations, both with other designers/makers and with companies and brands, are a large part of Theodóra's work and practice. Alongside her self-initiated and commissioned work, Theodóra has been a visiting tutor at Iceland University of the Arts since 2016 and an associate lecturer at Goldsmiths University since 2021.

In her design studio, Theodóra creates stories using objects as her medium. Her work explores the stories an object can tell and finds ways to express them through the object itself. In doing so, she is fascinated by how a product can show its own manufacturing process. She often sees a product as documentation of what happened between the machine, the tool, the craftsman, and the material. It can even communicate something about the origin of a material or a past life. For Theodóra, this approach to product design often leads to the discovery of unexpected qualities. Her work also encourages people to reconsider our material world and explore value in a different way.
